HP Settles “Hidden Partition” Suit

The main allegations in the case, which was settled without HP admitting any wrongdoing, were that HP included undisclosed recovery partitions on PC hard drives, and didn’t include the “ValueAdd” and “Support” folders that are included on standalone copies of XP.

I have two comments:

  1. What’s all this “without admitting any wrongdoing” rubbish? Once a case reaches a courtroom this should not be an option. If guilt has not been assigned, how can justice be served?
  2. Every system should come with proper Windows Install media or the ability to make one – NOT a “System Restore Disk” that WIPES YOUR DATA. Any “recovery solution” that toasts your data is totally unacceptable.
